Conferences, Meetings
On 17-18 December 2004, a conference entitled "New Organization - New Opportunities" and the first general meeting of UACAA were held in Kyiv. The goal of the conference was to put across to professional accountants and auditors the need to protect through joint efforts their professional interests.
Addressing the participants were UACAA officers who formulated their vision of the new association and of the advantages of UACAA membership. UACAA Presdient Vadym Lynnyk, CIPA, announced The Main Directions of UACAA Activities (download here). Serhiy Êànygin, ÑÀÐ, UACAA Vice President, emphasized that the Association met the IFAC requirements certification as the basis of membership.
As a result of the conference, an overwhelming majority of the participants (about 200 persons) decided to join UACAA.
Also held were open sessions of the five standing UACAA committees, which identified key issues to work on, and their plans were put together for the immediate future. Group discussions during the conference that were planned as a means of networking for the participants, grew into well organized meetings of the committees, where most of the attendees expressed their preparedness to participate.
The committees identified their specific key objectives and ways for the Association to attain them. Thus, the Accounting Committee emphasized the need to promote the significance of the role of accountants with enterprise management through presentations, seminars, round tables etc. The Taxation Committee confirmed the UACAA intention to advocate the concept of corporate income tax being based on accounting data. The Education Committee focused its attention on the need to intoriduce a system of continued professional education. Specifically, it was decided to consider passing CIPA exams as a kind of continued professional education.
Vyacheslav Galchenko, CIPA, Dînetsk, says: "As a CIPA, I'm confident that integrity is equally as important as technical expertise for a professional accountant. It is a popular belief that money can buy anything in this country. I disagree. I'm sure there's a value not measured in money - the word of a professional accountant. I look at UACAA as an organization that will bring that home to the general public".
Olena Turiy, CIPA, Ivano-Frankivsk, believes: "I think it is time for accountants to learn to be proactive instead of complaining about fickle legislation and ambiguous regulations. I ask them: What have you done to help? Have you tried to prevent a single bad regulation from being approved? Let's start doing that through a vibrant professional association such as UACAA!"
